It's great that you were willing to move out of your comfort zone to learn something new. A lot of people don't, and I'm sorry people wouldn't listen to you about your hairstyles, but the reason is because a lot of the time white people show any interest in our culture it's just to steal the ideas and profit for themselves. It's not appropriation in this case. It's sharing!
