I long suspected Gervais was an “ain’t shit” comedian after watching a show he hosted on the early aughts called An Idiot Abroad, in which he’d send his so called friend into different parts of the world to discover different cultures, and seemed to take quite a lot of glee in putting this friend in situations that he knew would make him deeply uncomfortable. His reactions to his friends discomfort felt distinctly nasty to me and I’ve been avoiding him since. I’ve never seen any of his comedy specials. Just that one small glimpse of him was distasteful enough.
