I liked this. I was really excited about this announcement too. I’m a huge Chinese Action movie fan, so I was hoping Shang Chi would be something like that, with an all Chinese cast.

I agree we all really do need to give it a chance. People should at least wait for a trailer, and not base their opinion solely on speculation. There’s simply not enough known about what Marvel plans to do for people to start yelling for a boycott, and everyone still has plenty of time to take them to task if they f*ck this up. That they changed the character from Fu Manchu to The Mandarin is a good sign that they’re paying at least some attention to their fans sensibilities, or at least the creators are aware of what to do, and what not to do. (They also need to learn from all the whitewashing and yellow-face incidents, that blew up in the media, and I hope they do.)

Remember in the Black community we had the same issue with a racist caricature in the Black Panther comic books, called Man-Ape, which was changed for the movie to M’Baku, who is now everyone's favorite character. (It helps when the creative team is the same race as the characters they’re writing about.)

Everyone needs to remember, we’ve still got plenty of time to kick the MCU in the pants, if they look like they're messing up.
