I grew up in the 70s. Completely different generations, and so is this one. I didnt grow up in the kind of environment where I had to show deference to white people, and I think, as a result, that was why white women always called me "intimidating". Because I always carried myself like I was their equal (although this was not a conscious thing on my part.)

This young man, like all of our young men today, grew up in the aftermath of the Civil Rights Act. Gen X was the first generation after Jim Crow to grow up knowing, for an absolute certainty, that we were the equals of any white person we met, and most of us didn't even know to show otherwise.
