I don't think people quite understand (especially white men) how deep this is, patriarchy has taught white men (and to a slightly lesser degree other men of color, at least in the US) that they don't need to back up anything they say with facts or logical arguments.

Some men are willing to learn and listen but a mediocre man is the kind who just wants to be heard all the time, and is deeply insecure about being challenged by those he considers "less than".
