I don’t know how much you know about American accents ( I know only a little about accents and accent prejudice in England) but we have much the same attitude here in the US. People who are looked down on by others because they use certain types of words, and have accents indicating the region of the US where they were born. It’s not as blatant an attitude as in England, but as a Black woman I have gotten the ,”Youre so articulate.” statements from white people.
