I Disagree.
I think the point is the degree of dehumanization. Yes, women worldwide have been treated horrifically, and still are, but Baartman wasn’t white, Latina, or Asian. None of those women were paraded as zoo animals, intellectually compared to monkeys, or not given their humanity, even after their death, under the guise of scientific curiosity and study. The dehumanization and oversexualization was, by every definition of the term, horribly extreme. Don’t minimize what happened to her as just “All Women Matter”.
Then again, this isn’t the oppression Olympics, and I found this post very insightful. I’d heard about her as a teen, but didn’t know anything about her background, nor did it occur to me to research it. Sometimes you don’t know enough to ask about what you don’t know.
