I can agree. I work in a public library that is well known for its research capabilities. The vast majority of books on our history department are about war and the great men of history. There’s no real emphasis on the different eras of history, what happened during those eras, how those eras connect to each other, and how they affect the present. What did the peoples of those times and places pass on to the rest of us and how did different parts of the world interact with each other?

Even as a librarian it’s hard to find good books on those last two issues, and I know it’s not anything they teach in schools. In schools we’re mostly indoctrinated in the worship of great white men, and what wars America fought with Europe (the wars that happened in the Americas are never mentioned.)

Most of what Americans think they know, not just about American history but the rest of the world, come from Hollywood movies and tv shows.
