I also detected from Clarice some Imposter Syndrome, in her first meeting with Lecter. She doesn’t actually feel she belongs in the FBI either, but puts on the front as if she does. She appears unperturbed by the people surrounding her in the first five minutes of screen time, but as you said, she’s tried to hide her past, and has even tried to change her accent.
