I actually loved this movie! I don't speak for everyone, but it's one of my favorite racial allegories, that actually gets the allegory correct! In fact, the allegory works for most forms of bigotry.

The people being othered and bullied are just hapless, scared, individuals, who are tying to navigate and understand a world that doesn't want them in it. They're not dangerous to anyone, they don't have superpowers, they're not predators, and have no power beyond being defiant. The ones trying to exclude them are misguided and terrified people projecting their fear on others.
