For the first time in this country’s history, everyone has a platform or the potential for one. For the first time the older generations (those who used to be able to spout whatever nonsense they wished against marginalized people with impunity) are getting some real pushback from those communities.

Life must be so hard for old white men because everybody just keeps talking back and sassing them, when they used to be able to spew their opinions of “the other” without consequence to themselves (there were always consequences for women, PoC, and lgbtq, though). They dictated the terms of the discussion, the priority of the subject matter, and how and where the discussion would be held.

And now that’s over.

They’re always trying to hold the line to keep things exactly the same as in their youth, but progress breaks through in a hundred thousand different ways, and in places they weren’t watching.
