Here’s a thing I’m not going to be doing anymore. I’m not writing those end of the year “Best of…” lists in the same way anymore. I’ve always thought that was a very snobby way of categorizing films and shows and I’m just not comfortable with doing that. Are there things which are (maybe) objectively great or awful? I suppose. But just as I’ve decided not to be a snob about books, I’m not not going to be a snob about what I like to watch.

I’m not someone who particularly cares what professional critics think, in the sense that I know what I like, what resonates with me, and whether or not I thought it was worth my time to watch it. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t ignore them completely, and I’m happy if they like something I liked, but what they liked is not the criteria I’m using to determine what I enjoy. I’m going instead to categorize things according to whether or not they resonated with me or spoke to me in some way, and I hope to encourage people to do as I have during my life, which is branch out, and watch different types of things.

My focus, like last year, was on TV rather than movies, and having fun rather than drama. Not that I didn’t watch some drama, just that wasn’t my focus. I didn’t watch some of the bigger name dramas this year because I mostly wasn’t in the headspace for them, couldn’t afford to see them in theaters, or I just chose to be…
