Because some people only relate to the world through the idea of “productivity”. Human beings have to be producing all the time and anything outside of that is a waste of their time. In their minds you have to constantly be producing something of worth for other people (and never just for yourself).

I’ve often shared with someone my artistic pursuits only to have them turn to me and inquire about how I intend to monetize what I’m doing, as if the activity by itself has no value of its own. It has to make money, bring other people joy, or make something that’s of benefit to others (and never just yourself).
