At this point, I’ve just started telling people it’s best to get away from them before they reach the “I love Hitler” stage of their development. When you see them heading in a direction you can’t go it’s best to get out early. It’s gonna hurt either way but at least you didn’t waste time defending them. You can’t stop them from sliding down that slope. They have to want to recognize they’re on one and stop themselves and I’ve observed they usually don’t even try. Don’t follow them down.
