And don’t forget the racial angle of the use of the word. It’s a word often lobbed at women of color, in lieu of calling us angry.

All of these words and phrases are used negatively against women, and are designed to shame us back into a place of submission. So White women get told to be “nice girls”, Black women get called “loud”, to shame us into being quiet, Latinas get the words “sassy” or “spicy”, or simply get laughed at when they’re angry, or speak up for themselves, and the feelings of Asian women simply get erased by being called “quiet”, or not being acknowledged at all.
